So finally someone's managed to coerce me in to joining one of these. I'm kind of actually building another resin kit at the moment, but I thought it'd be fun to try one of those female anime figures for a change instead of always doing mecha. Also, the pose on the kit looks very challenging, a lot of interweaving parts. If I'm not mistaken this is actually a resin casting of what's originally a PVC figure by the Good Smile Company from the anime, "Black Rock Shooter." Here's some pictures of the original PVC figure, courtesy of Gunjap: Looking at the pose... *gulp* it looks tougher than I thought. The scythe is interwoven with the hair. That's going to be tough! Thankfully I have ze internet! Without it all I'd have for reference would be this little photo on the box.. The resin kit is casted with 4 pieces of tan resin and something I've really not seen before, it looks like there's been some black pigment mixed in with the resin? Or is this some kind of bizzare black resin... I have no idea. Nasty looking black scythe, this will be fun to metallize with some Alclad! First loose fitting of the main parts with blu-tack The pose is a really awkward one to try to photograph... I'm going to have to figure out some way to mount the torso on something while working on it. Lots more to do, tons of cleanup and seam removal to do... Let the group build commence!

Update - Decided not to show the sanding process since well... Its kinda boring, and if you've seen it once you've seen it all, so I skipped right to taking pictures of the pinning. Main connection of the legs to the torso. Double pinned for extra strength. Calves and lower legs. The legs will be the primary load bearing part of the structure, so I decided again on double pegs, one for main strength and the second for some extra strength and to ensure there's no rotational shear force happening (intend to use super glue, not the best shear strength. Might change to epoxy... We'll see!) Gargh. The hair, the most frustrating part of this build so far. In fact probably the ONLY frustrating part. The rest of the kit needs minor cleanup but the hair... Yeesh. Resin was cast too thin so upon even very gentle handling, it snapped in 3 places and had nasty gaps everywhere. Had to do a lot of putty and glue repair work. Still not done, need to clean up more. Hope the primer covers it up well. I forsee having to come back to this part again and again till its ok. Pinning of the head. Its nice that there's already a peg for registration, so all I needed to do was drill the primary pin and everything else falls in to place. Thought I'd show the hands as well. Mind boggling as it is, the fingers for one of the hands is separate. Being so tiny, pinning those things wasn't easy! Torso, pinned for the arms and kind of finished with cleanup. Rest depends on the primer layer. Top section of the scythe, I angled a file and tried to make the surface more irregular, more bone like. Hope it works. Lower section of the scythe, again, tried to create a more bone like texture with a file and some putty. I'll have to wait for the primer layer to see if it worked. Washing up time! A bath in an ultrasonic cleaner and a bit of work with a toothbrush. Really messy kit! The resin wash liquid turned brownish after it was done. TONS of mold release. Testing the pinning I've done so far. I was really worried I wouldn't be able to recreate the pose but it seems my pinning was correct. Lucky! Arright... Priming and checking for errors next!

Yah lor difficult to sand, all black! Wait for the priming, then I can see properly. All the mistakes will come out. DOOM!
