This is the gift I received from Kong for the christmas group build; a full white metal miniature. Lovely kit! Thanks!
Ok picture first, talk later:
This is the first time I m working on a miniature, and a full white metal with different color on it. Construction wise.... basically i just scribe off the mold lines, which i realised I have had missed a few. besides that, added some scratches n damages on the blades n armor using art knife.
Most of the work is on coloring:
First, I prime the thing with Gunze's metal primer, which is transparent. Then a layer of semi gloss black. Lightly compound the edge of the blades, and the armor (places i need high shine). Then I spray the whole thing with Gunze's super metallic stainless steel.
The blades: after stainless steel, roughly cover other parts, then spray super metallic (SM) iron n dark iron. Basically not using the paint but just add clear black n gloss black to make the metallic darker. which i think it's a very weird yet interesting color. Without highlight, the paint looks really dark n black. But when tilt to a certain angle, it shines. It's kinda confusing though.
After that, the edge of the blade, i experimented with Gunze's SM latest formula chrome silver, which i m pretty happy with the result.
For the armor, mask the blade, then spray 2 Gunze's mazoira paint. It's a duo tone paint, which is, from different angle, it gives u different tone. I used a Green-->grey, and a Pruple-->green. Think the part is not big enough, in addition i was spraying them on a silver base (stainless steel) instead of black, I need to overspray them in order to be visible. The drawback is, the more dominant color in the duo tone tends to really dominate the visual most of the time. Result: spray it on a silver base gives more subtle effect compared to a solid black base which gives a very strong effects.
The skin tone: Decided to work straight onto the silver tone. Good thing is, the silver base make the skin tone looks more lively n change of tone a lil more looking from different angle. Bad thing is, without strong lighting, the skin tone looks altogether a lil too dark.
No final top coat.
Mistake: when almost finish, i was about to sprinkle blood (crimson red) onto the blade n some armore part, the blue tack i use to hold the miniature gave way, n the whole thing dropped into the red paint pallet e. Wash off the enamel paint as much as i could, but i realised the whole thing looks even darker than before. Worse, i realise a subtle red tone was covering the model... T.T
Lesson learn: as for white metal kit, which is kinda heavy, please make it more secure!!!
That's about it. Is not as vibrant n nice as i would like it to be (as i visualize in my mind); so C & C is very much welcome!!!!
